Båstads Municipality has completed a significant digital transformation. In two and a half years, they moved from a fragmented and ageing IT environment to a modern, automated and secure digital environment, without disrupting daily operations.
A new identity and access management environment was built in parallel with the existing one, allowing operations to continue as usual throughout the transition.
The digital workplace was modernised, and collaboration spaces were consolidated into a single platform. At the same time, employees across the municipality were given a consistent digital environment that supports their work regardless of role or location. A new approach to identities and access was established. User data is now automatically sourced from core systems, and onboarding and offboarding take place digitally without manual steps. A single account provides access to relevant systems based on role and need.
This has fundamentally changed day-to-day operations. The IT department can now work far more efficiently. Time previously spent on manual administration and support is now used for development and improvement. The focus has shifted from resolving issues to moving the organisation forward.
The municipality has moved from a legacy security model to a new level of control over identities and access. Permissions are managed consistently and at a detailed level, including links to physical access such as buildings and entry systems. Everything is traceable, structured and designed to last.
With support from ID North, the municipality has established and continues to strengthen its identity security. By implementing and operating solutions for identity and access governance, they ensure that the right person has the right access at the right time, while maintaining control and traceability across processes.
The result is an organisation with automated processes, reduced manual work and a clearly strengthened level of security in line with today’s requirements. The platform provides stability today and creates the conditions to continue developing over time.
The journey continues with the next step: further simplifying the user experience, reducing reliance on passwords and, over time, moving towards passwordless authentication. In parallel, the municipality is exploring how AI can support increased efficiency.
Båstads Municipality shows that it is possible to carry out a large-scale transformation without pausing operations. With clear governance, the right structure and identity at the core, you create control, stability and the ability to move forward with confidence.
